The RX-78-2 Gundam is the first mobile suit to be called a Gundam and first appeared in the anime Mobile Suit Gundam 0079 and was piloted by Amuro Rey. Being the first Gundam, it has also been called ‘Grandpa Gundam’ by man fans and Gunpla builders.
The kit for this build is the Real Grade version. This was also the debut kit of the RG line. The main focus of the RG line is the inclusion of a full inner frame, with the armor attaching to the frame. This allows for more realistic movement of the joints.
On a side note, there is actually a 1/1 scale version of this kit in Japan. Regretfully, in March 2017 it will be taken apart.

For the most part, this build went together quite well. If there was one complaint it would be the should armor. You look at it the wrong way and they will fall apart. The other issue that I had and have had on my two previous RG builds is with the articulated hands. It never fails, just as I get the hand to hold a weapon either the thumb pops off the hand or the weapon peg comes out of the palm of the hand. As I said this has happened on both my previous RGs, so I am assuming this is a design issue with the hand
On the positive side, I like the fact the RG RX-78-2 can carry all of its weapons when not in use. I know that this is a weird thing to classify as a positive, but to me poses are more realistic when a mobile suit is able to carry all it’s weapons with it.The bazooka mounts on the lower back. The beam rifle can be attached to the inside of the shield. The beam sabers are normally stored on the top of the backpack. There are also a couple of mounts on the inside of the shield for the beam sabers.
